Parents – Bus Routes Updated, Effective October 1
District staff has been working with our bus contractor to review and modify bus routes to better serve our students and families.  New routes will be in effect on Tuesday, October 1 and are available at this link

Parents – Boundary Review Task Force Application Available October 1 Parents and guardians are invited to apply to become a member of the Boundary Review Task Force. This committee will meet nearly weekly from early December until February 2020. The task force will be made up of building principals and up to 20 parent/guardian representatives from all neighborhood boundary areas.  The task force assessment and analysis will: Review, question and discuss one or more draft (“Springboard”) boundary adjustment scenarios prepared by district staff and consultants to identify implementation/policy issues, major flaws, unforeseen consequences and implications for the 2018 bond program. Review and consider community input from open house events. Open house events will take place in January and February. Come to a consensus as a Task Force on a preferred boundary adjustment scenario. All meetings will be open to the public to observe. Written input from the public may be submitted to the task force. The task force will complete their work by April 2020.

Parents – Text Alert Opt-In Coming Next Week
Our district’s goal is to inform parents and guardians of safety alerts, school events, and general school information in a consistent and timely way.
Starting this fall, all schools in the Corvallis School District will use SchoolMessenger for parent/guardian outreach, emergency broadcasts, and other important communications.  Next week, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to OPT-IN to receive school safety messages and absence notifications via SMS (text). School websites and email news will continue to provide general school news and announcements.

Watch for a reminder email on September 30 about the OPT-IN notification that will be sent that day to all parent and guardian cell phone numbers.

Students & Parents – Women explore engineering — On Tuesday, Oct. 22, CV will be taking students interested in engineering to HP.  The event will include: · Engineering hands-on activities and site tours · Lunch with speed-networking where girls are given the opportunity to connect with several HP women engineers Please come to Beyond CV (Career Center) to RSVP and to pick up permission forms—they are due back by Oct. 1.  Slots will fill up fast!

Students & Parents – CHS/CVHS College Planning Night — Thursday, Oct. 10, 6:00 pm, at CV.  A fair portion of the night will be held in the gym from 6:00-7:00 and breakout sessions, led by college representatives, will be from 7:00-9:00. All CHS and CVHS high school students and their families are welcome.

Students & Parents – Phagan’s Beauty College — On Thursday, Oct. 17, during lunchtime, Beyond CVHS will have a representative from Phagan’s Beauty College. We will have hands-on activities and information about the program and potential financial aid options. Beyond CVHS is across from the school’s library. Please stop by ahead of time to sign up. This opportunity will fill up quickly!

Students – PSAT— On Oct. 30 all sophomores will be taking the PSAT from 8:00 – 11:45 am.  All sophomores are automatically registered to take the test at no cost. Sophomore families will be receiving letters in the mail in the upcoming week or two with more information including opt-out form. Juniors wanting to take the PSAT will have to pay $23 to the bookkeeper. Registration for juniors will be open from Sept. 16-Oct. 7. Juniors who take the PSAT and score in the highest percentile and meet other criteria may also qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Students & Parents – AP Testing Changes — AP exam registration for 2019-20 will occur in the fall instead of later in the school year. For more information on why the exam registration will occur earlier, please refer to the Collegeboard AP page  https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/ap-2019?excmpid=mtg434-pr-1-vid. The cost of the AP exams will be $84/exam, or free for students eligible for fee waivers. Payments will be accepted beginning Oct. 1 to Nov. 4; see Mr. Parrott, CV bookkeeper.
